Nutrition that knows where you come from

Nutriten is an evidence-based nutrition brand built to celebrate the foods, cultures and communities that mainstream wellness has spent years overlooking.

The Mission

Nutriten exists to make nutrition accessible and to educate everyone, regardless of where they come from or what they grew up eating. We believe that better health shouldn't come at the cost of your culture and that the foods you grew up with are not the problem they've been made out to be.

This isn't a diet or detox brand, it's a space where real food is understood properly, cultural traditions are celebrated loudly and nutrition finally makes sense for the people it's always left out.

The Manifesto

Your food culture is not a problem to fix.

Mainstream nutrition has spent decades telling people from diaspora and Global South communities that their traditional foods are the enemy. We disagree, loudly and with evidence.

From jollof rice to tamales, dhal to kimchi, plantain to pho, these foods have centuries of wisdom behind them and Nutriten is here to prove it.

Values

The Founder

Janelle, Founder

I was twelve when a school nurse weighed me and told me I was obese. I was doing tennis and swimming every week, had no belly, was tall and muscular. But the BMI chart didn't care about any of that and that was my first experience of being told my body, and the food that built it, was the problem.

I grew up in London, of Caribbean and English heritage. Food in my house was never just fuel. It was culture, love, memory and identity. And yet every time health came up, that food was the first thing put on trial.

I always thought I'd be a physiotherapist. I did the work experience and had the interest but somewhere along the way self-doubt got louder than ambition and I stepped back from that path. In college I found sports nutrition and something clicked. Five years into studying nutritional therapy part time, I built Nutriten because I kept seeing the same gap. Brilliant, culturally rich food being dismissed by mainstream wellness with no real evidence, just bias.

This is the resource I wish had existed when that school nurse told my mum I was obese and that I needed to watch what I eat at twelve years old.

If you've ever been made to feel like your heritage was unhealthy, this brand was built for you.
